There is only a week to go before the Wombats take the field in Dodgeball World Championship VIII. The Wombats have taken delivery of their brand new guernseys and will go through a final training session on Saturday before they head to the US on Tuesday.
The Wombats will be updating their twitter (@AussieWombats) feed during the event with scores and other updates. Pictures and video will be uploaded to the website once they have been approved by the Wombats ethics and legal areas.
With less than two weeks until the kick off of the Dodgeball World Championships all eyes are on Las Vegas, including those of Jacques Rogge, President of the International Olympic Committee. While no official word has been released, it is rumored dodgeball, along with rugby sevens and golf will be added to the programme for Rio 2016.
Rogge will vote along with the other IOC delegates at the end of the year. Based on the presentation put forward by our own Tim for Dodgeball Earth, dodgeball’s international governing body, voting would seem to be nothing more than a formality. When asked about the vote, Rogge said “…we haven’t voted yet, but I was very impressed by the dodgeball and rubgy sevens submission. On merit, I hope those two sports are included. Golf will be our third choice, not because it’s an exciting sport, but because I am getting older and need to start thinking about my retirement. Financially, they have put a stong case to us.”
The Wombats have had a minor disruption to their preparations for the Dodgeball World Championships, while finalising their training at altitude in the mountains of Peru. During a visit to Machu Picchu, one of the wonders of the world, the Wombats had an impromptu training session. While throwing the balls around, Tim knocked over a wall causing the collapse of a number of buildings.
“The place came down like dominos. It’s not too bad, it’s not like anyone lives there” Tim explained when questioned by Peruvian officials. “It was old anyway.”
After a small altercation with Peruvian law enforcement, which resulted in a number of casualties, the Wombats were escorted to the Peruvian border and asked not to return.
The Wombats are returning home and are finish off preparing for the Dodgeball World Championships.
